Should You Buy a Puppy from a Pet Shop?

Pet Shop
There are many pet stores around the county, some big, some small. Before you purchase an animal from one, you should consider all the options. There are both pros and cons to buying a puppy from a pet shop. If you are looking for a certain breed and the store has it, you may decide to buy the puppy. You will notice that prices for animals at pet stores are even higher than what you will pay if you go to a breeder, because the pet store has to make a profit also.
Pet stores are great places to buy supplies of all kinds. They will have the most comprehensive food selection as well as lots of leashes, collars, training aids and toys. And, some pet stores such as PetSmart offer obedience classes for puppies and their owners. They may also offer grooming services for dogs and cats. Also, if you are shopping for fish for an aquarium or exotic animals pet stores are great places to look. But when it comes to puppies, there may be some better options available.
Consider rescuing a puppy from a shelter. You could very well save the puppy’s life, as some shelters euthanize animals after they have been there too long. Some people with unplanned, unwanted litters take them to the nearest shelter. Or, they put an ad in a newspaper or community paper so you may want to look there as well. Adopting a puppy who needs a good home is very rewarding for both the owner and the puppy. You will have a best friend for many years, many animals seem like they know they’ve been rescued and become very attached to their owners.
It will certainly save you money on the cost of buying a purebred puppy from a pet shop. And, many breeds have congenital defects. Experts will tell you that on average, mixed breeds enjoy better health and a longer life span. It all depends on your plan for your puppy, if you want to breed and show them then of course you want to get a purebreed. If you want a loving companion, rescuing a puppy in need is probably the best thing you can do. No matter what you end up doing, all puppies will need vet exams and vaccinations after you bring them home.
